The John Paul II Foundation for the Sahel encourages the plantation of some plant species such as musk that control erosion. It helps to restore the plant cover through reafforestation.

It is because it is a charitable work that the foundation has placed man at the core of its concern in fighting against the scourge of desertification: to train the Sahelians regardless of religion, race and sex to enable them to serve their countries and brothers in a spirit of integral and interdependent human promotion and to help them when they so desire in their desertification control endeavours.
